The next few pages contain examples of monochrome art, principally
pen and ink drawings. The illustration used above as a heading for this
section, is in fact a pen and ink work on illustration board, although at this
size and resolution, it appears to have been created in pencil. It was produced as
the centre spread for the book "Heritage Brampton - 1978", an
illustrated review of some of the fine old buildings in the city of Brampton,
Ontario. The
original work is 17½" by 40". The house in the centre of the
picture is The Boyle House, an historic building dating from the mid 1800s. It is flanked by a pair of equally historic
churches, St. Paul's United on the left. and The First Baptist on the right.
St. Paul's opened in 1886, and the renewed Baptist church in the same
year. The latter was largely reconstructed again in 1927. Since the construction of the present City Hall in Brampton, the
viewpoint from which this landscape was taken is no longer accessible, and the
foreground details have changed substantially. The
following drawings have been selected from various sources, including the
Heritage Brampton book. The majority were produced to illustrate
publications of one sort or another. Consequently they are quite
representative of the original scenes, with little or no artistic licence taken,
other than to isolate and emphasize the salient features of the subject.
Technical graphics are a somewhat different proposition, as may be judged from
any included here. These were once prepared by hand, whereas today, they
would almost certainly be computer generated. To view the drawings, click on the thumbnails
below or the buttons at left. To return to this page,
